Background

London Stansted Airport was built in 1942 as a USAAF bomber base during WWII, and during the package holiday explosion of the 60s grew to become London's third airport.  London Stansted Airport was eventually bought out by the British Airports Authority, who developed the terminal in 1969 and extended it in 1972. A new terminal was opened at London Stansted Airport in 1991, and won awards.
